Job Description

The Beaverkill Angler of Roscoe, New York (Trout Town USA!) has positions open for retail sales help for this coming season. We are seeking one full-time person starting in late March/early April and running through October or later and one part-time person, starting in May and running through the season. For the right individual, there is the opportunity to grow into a full-time management position. There is also the potential for some guide work for qualified applicants.

The Beaverkill Angler is the 2017 Orvis Authorized Retailer of the year and has served the area for nearly 50 years. We are the region’s largest fly shop and located in the heart of some of the best trout fishing in the Northeastern US. We are steps from the famed Beaverkill and Willowemoc Rivers, and a short strike to the East Branch, West Branch and Mainstem Delaware Rivers, the Neversink River, the Scoharie and Esopus Creek. Our bug hatches are unrivaled on the East Coast and the history of fly fishing in this area runs deep. You will have great fishing opportunities!

We are looking for hard working, personable folks to work in a fast-paced, fun environment. Fly fishing and product knowledge is a must; fly tying and local knowledge, or the willingness to get up to speed quickly, is also very helpful. You must have basic computer literacy skills and be comfortable engaging customers with respect and cordiality.

Day to day responsibilities for both positions include assisting customers with product and fly selection as well as offering fishing advice, helping coordinate guide trips, stocking and maintaining the sales floor, receiving inventory, processing shipments and returns, regular store cleaning, updating website and social media feeds including generating regular fishing reports, and assisting with basic instruction like introductory casting clinics, beginner fly tying and beginner fly fishing lessons. Qualified folks will have the opportunity to pick up some guide trips (as long as you have proper licensing and insurance).

This could be a stepping stone to full-time year round work for the right person. The shop is under new ownership and we are expanding our e-commerce operations and looking to grow the shop in new directions. Forward-looking and tech savvy individuals will have potential opportunities to grow with us and help lead the shop into the future.
